| Early in 1996 the very successful
After School Club at Bridge & Patrixbourne School was able to
expand its premises. This meant that the building would be greatly
improved and also vacant during the day. It was therefore decided
to open a Nursery. The Nursery
then went into partnership with the After School Club and Playscheme
in August 2002 to form a building committee Bridge Childcare Centre
who became the owners and are in charge of the building and its
maintenance. They managed to secure funding for a new building
that replaced the old one.
The Nursery now has excellent, spacious
facilities for pre-school children which includes wet/dry area
for “messy” play, purpose-built toilet facilities,
a kitchen and cooking area and a small fenced astro-turfed area
at the rear of the building for safe outdoor play.
The Nursery is not funded by K.C.C. or
Bridge School and must be self supporting. The Nursery is organised
and administered by a committee of parents, teachers and local
people. A very close friendship has been established with Bridge
School and advice is always available to Nursery Staff for the
carefully structured curriculum.
