YEAR 2 TRIP TO FORELAND LIGHTHOUSE

This week Year 2 had an amazing day out at the South Foreland lighthouse at St. Margaret’s bay and at the Dover marina, where we enjoyed a boat ride along the coast!  The trip helped us better understand our history topic on Victorians, as the lighthouse was built during Queen Victoria reign and our Geography topic on UK seas.  During our visit to the lighthouse, we had the opportunity to tour the lighthouse and learn how a lighthouse works!  Did you know that South Foreland lighthouse was the first lighthouse to use electricity?  We also learnt about Morse code and had the chance to practise sending messages!  Our trip on the boat around the Dover Marina was equally as exciting - We saw the White cliffs of Dover, Dover castle, seals, cruise ships – we even had the opportunity to steer the ship and wear the captain’s hat!  It was an amazing (if not a little windy) day and we had a great fun day!
