Absence from school
Please ring the school office by 9.30am if your child is not attending school that day. The reason for their absence will be recorded in the register.
If we have not received a reason for absence by 10am, we will ring the contact numbers given to confirm the reason.
It is no longer school policy to authorise absences for holidays within the school term dates. Please arrange an appointment with the Headteacher to discuss your circumstances if a situation arises within the family that you feel requires your child to miss school - even if this is only for one day.
We regularly monitor the attendance of every child in the school, and a low percentage (under 95%) or unauthorised absences will result in a letter to parents and an invitation to meet with the Headteacher to discuss ways to improve your child's attendance. Persistent low attendance will be brought to the attention of the local authority attendance officer. Please read the Attendance Policy for further information.
Children should wear a blue school sweatshirt, which are kept in stock at the school, and a white polo shirt, combined with black or grey trousers or skirts. In the summer the girls may also choose to wear summer dresses of school colour; e.g. blue and white gingham pattern. Shoes should be plain black with either laces or a strap.
Children should not wear jewellery to school. One small, plain pair of stud earrings may be worn – these need to be removed, or taped over, for PE activities.
The children change for all Physical Education activities; PE kit is a blue T-shirt and navy-blue shorts, which are available from the school.
Children in Reception need plimsolls for indoor activities.
We find it advisable for the children to wear an overall or apron to cover their school clothes during art and craft activities. You will probably find that an old shirt will do nicely.
Please make sure that all uniform and shoes are clearly labelled.
The School gates are opened at 8.30am but children will not be able to go through the back playground until 8.40am. The day formally starts at 8.50am.
Children should not arrive at school before 8.30 am, and no responsibility can be taken for them until this time. Also when the children are dismissed at 3.10pm for Reception and 3.15pm for everyone else parents should wait on the playground, and take children safely home down the footpath. Please do not park your car on the school road.
Administration of Medicine
If you require us to administer any type of medicine to your child during the day, please bring their medication to the school office and complete a permission form. Medication will be stored in a dedicated fridge and will only be returned to a responsible adult.
Children should not bring their own medication into school - this includes asthma inhalers.
If a child has been sick they should remain away from school for at least 48 hours to ensure they are not contagious.
If you are unsure if your child is well enough to attend school, please ring the office for advice on whether we are able to accept them. Wherever possible children should attend school.
