Home Learning

The aims and objectives of our Home Learning Policy are:

  • To develop an effective partnership between school and home
  • To reinforce, consolidate and extend learning across the curriculum
  • To use the home as a means of supporting learning of all kinds
  • To provide opportunities for parents and children to work together to enjoy learning experiences
  • To encourage our children to become curious and independent learners
  • To encourage pupils, as they progress, to develop the confidence and self-discipline needed to study on their own and prepare them for the requirements of secondary transfer

Home Learning – What goes home when?

1 Home Learning book is issued to each child (A4)

On the inside cover of the book will be the Non-negotiable Success Criteria.

During the year, 6 Home learning sheets go home:

However, some activities can be repeated over two terms if it is project work.

With each home learning sheet there will be another A4 sheet which will include maths instant recall facts and more details about English and GPS for the term. These are both to be stuck in the home learning book as well as a double sided print out that is send home with the child. These will also be put on the website.

3 Newsletters go home:

1 curriculum overview goes out in Term 1 and this will be put on the website

Terms 3 and 4

Week 1

Friday 12th  January

Home learning sheet sent to parents and on website. Explain to children about the Home Learning tasks. Year 6 to start weekly homework

Week 2

Friday 19th January

Set compulsory task 1.  Work due in on Wednesday 24th January (Years 1-5). Year 6 weekly homework

Week 3

Friday 26th January

Set compulsory task 2.  Work due in on Wednesday 31st January (Years 1-5).

Year 6 weekly homework

Week 4

Friday 2nd  February

Set compulsory task 3.  Work due in on Wednesday 7th February (Years 1-5).

Year 6 weekly homework

Week 5

Friday 9th February

Last Day of Term 3. Send out half term tasks or new vocabulary for new areas of learning. Children could also review learning at the end of term and take home a revision sheet

 

Half Term

Week 6

Friday 23rd  February

Set compulsory task 1.  Work due in on Wednesday 28th February (Years 1-5). Year 6 weekly homework

Week 7

Friday 2nd March

Children encouraged to complete Home Learning task - books shared with class and evaluation slips completed and added to book. 6 weekly homework

Week 8

Friday 9th  March

Set compulsory task 2.  Work due in on Wednesday 14th March (Years 1-5). Year 6 weekly homework

Week 9

Friday 16th   March

Set compulsory task 3.  Work due in on Wednesday 21st March (Years 1-5). Year 6 weekly homework

Week 10

Friday 23th  March

Last Friday of Term 4. Send out Easter holiday work tasks or new vocabulary for new areas of learning. Children could also review learning at the end of term and take home a revision sheet

 

Reception classes will continue to use their Leo Learning Books and set work throughout Terms 2 and 3.

Year 1 to start home learning from Term 3

Year 2-4 to do this sequence of home learning all year

Year 6 to start weekly homework from Term 3

Year 5 to do weekly homework from Term 5

Other points

As a school, we want to continue to encourage reading skills and see this as an on-going homework task for children and parents. Reading charts need to be used by all classes (Y1-Y6). This term the whole school approach will be via Reading Passports for Terms 3 and 4. Reading passports must go home and go on the website. A generic letter will go out for Year 2 – 6. At the end of Term 4 certificates and prizes will be given out in a whole school assembly.

Deadlines for the start of term : Newsletters, curriculum maps, home learning and instant recall facts will be sent home on Friday 12th January.
