We Will Remember Them
10th November 2018
On Friday 9th November, the children of Bridge & Patrixbourne CEP School spent the day learning about Remembrance. Our Key Stage 1 children all visited St. Peter's Church in Bridge and decorated the church with poppies that they had made. Year 6 also had the opportunity to visit St. Mary's Church in Patrixbourne and learn about the 'There but not There' installation.
We were privileged to the visited by two inspirational people, Tom and Alma from the Royal British Legion who spent the day with our Key Stage 2 children inspiring them with stories from so many years ago. In the words of one child, "I never really thought about Remembrance before but I think I understand it now."
The day ended with an Act of Worship led by our Year 6 Worship Leaders and a reading of the poem 'In Flander's Field' by some of our Year 5 children. After this, pupils and staff gathered on the playground with our parents and community members to commemerate those who have died for this country in war; those we knew and whose memory we still treasure and all those who have lived and died in the service on mankind.
The Act concluded with a blessing from Rev. Estella and the singing of the National Anthem.
We are very grateful to all those parents and members of the community who attended, whose presence was very much appreciated.
