Year One had a fantastic time at the Whitstable Steam Walk Gardens. First of all we explored the site whilst carrying out a scavenger hunt. We picked edible vegetables to make a salad and mixed ingredients to create a dressing. Finally we learned all about the role of worms in a garden and helped make a wormery. The gardens are blooming with a wide range of beautiful flowers and edible plants and we learnt about the role of the plants in the garden for attracting creatures and improving the soil. Whilst we enjoyed our picnics we listened out for the birds and watched the bees visiting flowers. Some of the children were lucky enough to see a slow worm in the compost and other highlights included tasting the leaves and finding ripe strawberries.
