Autumn weather has greeted us this term with wind, storm, rain, frost and sunshine.

In Forerst School you have to be flexible and go with the elements. We could not make a fire on the first day as planned as it was too stormy.

We read the book 'kind' and thought about how we can be kind to our Forest School area and the animals. The children fed the birds, collected litter, weeded around the trees and fed them, they planted acorns and conkers and collected leaves for the compost bin.

Some children chose to play hide and seek, they made a very fun mud slide on the mound and as always enjoyed the mud kitchen. We remembered the hedgehog song from last year and learned about natural and man-made materials, tying in with their learning in class. Some children chose to make boats out of materials they could find and they explored sinking and floating of materials.

As a Christmas craft, the children could choose to make a reindeer from sticks and string, learning knots and using their fine motor skills.

We read 'The Acorn' book and playing the Acorn game - learning about which animals eat acorns and that an oak tree can grow out of an acorn when it is left on the ground.

We had a wonderful experience where the children used one of our new toy birds - the robin - and pressed the noise button. A real life robin answered and the two of them had a chat!

Finally some children used loppers to clear away the old sunflowers.

Have a great Christmas everyone and I am looking forward to more outdoor fun next year!
