On Tuesday, seven of our girls travelled to Simon Langton Boys’ School for a football tournament. Our opening match against Canterbury Primary was a quick four minutes each way. A brief defensive mix-up on a throw-in allowed the opposition to slip through and score. Although we lost the match, the team kept their spirits high and still earned a point.
After a quick snack break, we faced Wincheap, who looked like a challenging opponent with some very tall players on their team! Undeterred, our girls tackled bravely, defended brilliantly, and pulled off several impressive saves. Their hard work paid off with a well-earned draw, adding two more points to the tally.
The final match against Blean 1 was tough, but the turning point came when Bea made a superb tackle and fired home an incredible goal. The whole team erupted with excitement as we secured a 1–0 victory.
The boys’ team also had a mixed but memorable day. They played with enthusiasm throughout, even when the results didn’t reflect the effort they put in. Strong defending and several near misses earned them two gritty draws. Their toughest match came against the eventual winners, who showed impressive composure and control. Despite the challenges, the boys enjoyed every moment and left with smiles, laughter, and plenty to build on for next time. A special mention goes to Harry, who was awarded the Golden Glove for best goalkeeper.
A huge thank you to Mrs Langsdon and Mr Wren for accompanying the teams and cheering them on.
