What did Year R get up to this term in Forest School ?
We learned and sang the robin song, built train tracks from sticks, made vehicles from loose parts, linking in with their transport topic. Isobel and Maria made a great bus, we introduced the spades as our first tool and children started digging in the digging area, we remembered some bird names and played a team work game and pretended to be caterpillars.
In week two we talked about equinox and the days turning longer with the official start of spring. Children walked around to see what signs of spring they can find, looking at buds, seedlings, blossoms, daffodils, leaves and insects. Nico found lots of worms and added them to the compost pile. Some chose to plant seeds and we read 'The Tree' which is a book all about the seasons. We also learned about Fiery Fox and some of our fire rules, getting ready for our first fire.
In our last session, we started learning all about bees. They found out how children pollinate flowers, which shapes they honeycombs are, how many eggs the queen bee can lay every day, we planted some seeds to help the bees, some made pine cone bees and some used hammer and nail for the first time to make their bee log slices.
Well done everyone - keep looking out for exciting discoveries in nature over the Easter holidays.
