Year 1 were some of the first lucky children to explore our newly opened pond this term. They learned how to stay safe and how to keep the animals and plants safe. We started pond dipping and learning about some of the animals like the water boatmen that have moved into the pond already.
Year 1 played a game, learning a little bit more about the trees that grow in our area. Some chose to make nature crowns, some did bark rubbings and mud faces, others asked for fire strikers. We picked some of the apples that grown on our fruit trees.
Please see the separate post about our trip to the woods where the wild things came to visit.
During our last session children made a fire and made some popcorn. We remembered the fire rules and the fire triangle- heat, fuel and oxygen. Sweet popcorn was definitely more popular this year. I showed the children how to use the log splitter, some children explored the world from the tree branches and we picked some tomatoes and sunflower seeds, ready to be planted again next spring time.
