This term, Year one pupils have designed and made their own marble runs.

Within morning/class work they explored existing products (plastic marble runs) and practised using tools and joining techniques. Within their DT lessons, the classes discussed slides in the playground; gravity; the properties of cardboard; friction and how the texture of the chute will affect the marble; energy of the marble as it travels and how the steepness of their chutes (gradient) will affect the marbles speed and energy.

The brief was to:

  • Design a simple marble run for a child
  • Make using cardboard, tape and glue
  • Join materials using tabs and flanges
  • Make structures strong and stable (robust to withstand play)
  • Evaluate (individual and peer)

Year one had a great time designing and making these and they worked very independently. Brilliant! I love them. Please view our gallery below:
