Yesterday, 5JS were extremely lucky to visit Simon Langton Girls school for a day of biodiversity activities. We begun the day by going on a bug hunt using identification sheets to identify what we had caught. We used nets and a sweeping technique through the grass. We found lots of centipedes, a butterfly and a couple of large bugs. Our next activity was to make two bug boxes which the school had kindly put together for us, our job was to fill it with bamboo, leaves, twigs and pine cones ready for the bugs to live. We have bought these back to school and will be placing them up in our forest school area.

Next, we went pond dipping. We found about 8 newts and lots of water boatmen. After this, we explored the orchards looking for all different types of trees. We had a small map to follow and had to find specific trees.

After lunch, we had a drama class, we had to think about various areas in nature (in the garden, in the forest, up a mountain) and act out what activities could happen there, following this we reflected on the damage some of these activities could cause and acted out from the landscapes point of view.

Languages came next, we learned how to write a poem in Spanish, following the pattern, Like our planet without water, like a rainbow with no colours.

Our last activity of the day was music, we learned several different songs and played several different instruments to accompany the song.

The children were amazing and had a fantastic day. They represented the school extremely well.
