Welcome to Year 1
Year 1 marks the exciting transition from the Early Years Foundation Stage into Key Stage 1. Children begin to build on their early learning by developing greater independence, responsibility, and confidence in their work.
A strong focus in Year 1 is on developing early reading, writing, and mathematical skills. Daily phonics lessons help children to grow as readers and writers, while practical and engaging activities bring maths to life. We also place a great emphasis on creativity and curiosity, encouraging children to explore the world around them through a rich curriculum.
As the year progresses, the children take part in a variety of trips and experiences that bring learning to life. By the end of Year 1, pupils are well-prepared for the Phonics Screening Check and have built firm foundations to carry forward into Year 2.
Year 1 is a year of new beginnings, discovery, and confidence building.
