We were very lucky in Year 3 to be visited by an expert in rocks from The Education People. Both classes had fun filled days with a large variety of activities.

We examined rocks using microscopes and identified the features of each.

We learnt about fossils and were able to cast our own using plaster of paris and playdoh.

We made our own versions of sedimentary rock using sand and water in lots of different layers.

We made our own versions of metamorphic rocks using wax and tin foil.

And we finished off the day by learning about the tectonic plates and volcanoes that can be found in the ring of fire. We made our own volcanoes using film cannisters, water and Vitamin C tablets. There were lots of loud pops.

What a great day!
