Year 6 were very engrossed in the Forest School area and their learning. I often did not want to stop them at the end as they were so in flow and everyone was engaged .
This term we picked lots of vegetables, recapped on the clove hitch (but an easier way this time), experienced heavy rain, created bows and arrows and found a wasps nest. Children chatted about what they were looking forward to in Year 6, learned about the willow plant, created platters and rings, made dens, looked at dragonflies and stag beetles and completed a tripod challenge (using a clove hitch) - if you are stuck somewhere and need to make a trip to hang your pot over the fire, the children will be the ones to help you. Some chose to make jar lanterns with leaves, others made creations with tools and conkers, playing the conker game, climbing trees and making a swing. We cooked something new this year - cake batter in a hazel leaf and then fried in a pan over the fire. Yum. We also made some apple, cinnamon and puff pastry dish over the fire and boiled hot water in the kelly kettle and enjoyed a hot squash during the last session.
We thought about which characteristics we are developing in Forest School, such as Team work, Dexterity, Self regulation, etc.
I am looking forward to seeing Year 6 again later in the year.
