Year 3 have had a very busy Forest School Term. Here are some of the things that we were up to:

The children went on a scavenger hunt, built fairy houses, picked sunflower seeds, went mushroom hunting, picked home grown vegetables, looked through the new microscope and discovered natural items and learned about compound and simple leaves. They learned about the ancient art of printing called Hapa Zome and they explored the petals and leaves in our area. We learned about the willow plants and made rings, hearts and their own inventions (as willow is very bendy), they asked for ropes and fire lighters, made eye patches and looked at dragonflies and stag beetles. We tried apple tea over the fire for the first time. You add apples, cinnamon sticks and ginger to water and boil it for a little while, add optional honey to it at the end, delicious.

Year 3 also explored conkers, or horse chestnuts, creating lots of fabulous art work .Some made leaf lanterns, others spiders or people and necklaces. I had lots of helpers creating a new knot area for the children. Linking in with their Egypt theme, they made clay amulets, hieroglyph stamps, creations of the river Nile and some children worked really hard to make a shaduf out of sticks. Well done if they challenged themselves...

I am looking forward to another term of Forest School with Year 3.
